Data Sources
UK Speed Cameras aggregates speed camera data from the following authoritative and community sources. We cross-reference multiple datasets to provide the most accurate and comprehensive database of UK speed cameras.
OpenStreetMap
Our primary data source. OpenStreetMap is a collaborative, freely licensed map of the world. Speed camera locations are contributed and verified by thousands of community mappers across the UK. Data is used under the Open Data Commons Open Database Licence (ODbL).
data.gov.uk
The UK Government's open data portal, providing access to datasets published by central government, local authorities, and public bodies. We use road network data, administrative boundary data, and published speed camera datasets where available under the Open Government Licence.
Transport Scotland
The Scottish Government's national transport agency. Transport Scotland publishes safety camera partnership data covering fixed, average speed, and mobile camera sites across Scotland's trunk road and motorway network.
GoSafe Wales
GoSafe is the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership, responsible for the operation of safety cameras across Welsh roads. Their published camera location data covers fixed, mobile, and average speed camera sites throughout Wales.
National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC)
The NPCC coordinates policing policy across the UK. Their guidance on speed enforcement and published camera site lists from individual police forces help us maintain accurate records of mobile enforcement locations and fixed camera installations.
Sentencing Council
The Sentencing Council for England and Wales issues definitive guidelines for speeding offences. We reference their published fine bands, penalty point ranges, and disqualification thresholds to provide accurate information about speeding penalties.
DVLA
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency provides official information on driving licences, penalty points, and vehicle registration. We reference DVLA guidance to ensure our information about licence endorsements and totting-up rules is correct.
Data Accuracy
Whilst we make every effort to ensure our data is accurate and up to date, speed camera locations and enforced speed limits can change without notice. If you spot an error or a missing camera, please contact us so we can investigate and correct it. This website is for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as a substitute for observing posted speed limits.
