The location directory is community-mapped; traffic, collision and penalty context comes from official UK public sources.

OpenStreetMap — camera locations

Primary location source. We import nodes tagged highway=speed_camera inside the ISO 3166-1 GB administrative boundary through Overpass. OpenStreetMap data is available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL).

DfT Road Traffic Statistics — AADF 2024

Annual average daily flow values are matched to the nearest DfT count point. They describe traffic at that count point, not a live count at the camera.

DfT STATS19 — final collision data 2024

Police-reported collisions within 500 metres of mapped camera locations. Geographic totals union collision IDs first, so one collision near several cameras is counted once per area.

GOV.UK — speeding penalties

Official information on fixed penalties, points, course discretion, court fine caps and notices.

Sentencing Council — speeding guideline

Official England and Wales recorded-speed bands, income percentages, points and disqualification ranges used by the calculator and fine-band guide.

Coverage and accuracy limits

  • OpenStreetMap may omit, misclassify or retain a camera that has changed.
  • A blank speed, direction or model means the source record did not provide it; we do not infer those fields.
  • Nearby collisions show proximity, not causation or camera effectiveness.
  • Police and court decisions depend on current law and individual circumstances.
